Old Paths

Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. Jeremiah 6:16

The secret of the LORD is with them that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant. Psalm 25:14

It’s In There

By Bill Stringfellow

Paul was an up-to-date, modern, timely, fresh, and state-of-the-art apostle, and in his writings he proves it. Read the story we want to share with you, and see how Paul knew all about it more than nineteen hundred years ago. Talk about insight!

Some time ago, two popular secular artists started setting our hearts on fire with a song they wrote. Without mentioning any names, these two songwriters told about a poor boy who went to a large, thickly populated and highly active city. He had a dream of accomplishing a certain goal, but had hardly stepped off the bus before he came face to face with heartless reality. With no money and little “street smarts,” he found himself hanging out with the homeless and scrounging through garbage cans in the back of restaurants for a bite to eat.

Even though he tried to find work, his worn clothes, dirty face, and inexperience put an almost impenetrable barrier around him, so he returned to searching for a place to sleep among his newly acquired bum buddies.

Of course the thought of quitting and going back home haunted him constantly. Even though he never, ever even thought that he would have to return home a defeated derelict, he couldn’t escape the idea. It seemed like the only sane and sensible solution . . . until he met a former prizefighter among the others trying to survive one more day. He didn’t need any introduction or explanation about his past was very obvious. His ears were so puffed from being beaten so much that it was a wonder he could hear those never-ending city police sirens, much less carry on a normal conversation. The scars and cuts, the limp and halting step, and the oversized knuckles told his sad story, and added to his shame.

What he said as he slowly shuffled out of the dark alley and into the brightness of the day to make his way back home affects everyone of us today.

He said, “I’m leaving. I’m leaving. I’m quitting, but the fighter still remains.”

Paul was aware that inside every honest-of-heart believer there is a fighter. He knew this all too well because inside his own heart, mind and body there was that fighter. He wrote to the Christians in Ephesus to get them to realize this great truth and act on it. He said he was praying that:

“That he [God] would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man [the fighter].” (Ephesians 3:16)

Standing in the middle of a circle of five to six men and being beaten to near unconsciousness with cane poles would cause most professed Christians to give up, wouldn’t it? But Paul experienced that awful cane beating THREE times. One time they traded their poles for big rocks and heavy stones. But he got up later and traveled on for Jesus.

Not only once but also on three other occasions, Paul had a ship he was on sink and force him out into the cold, rough, deep sea. One of those times he said he was hanging onto some wreckage all day long, all through the night that followed, and saw the dawn break on the second day, before he was rescued.

Read the eleventh chapter of Second Corinthians and see how he talks about being hungry, thirsty, even naked, and facing life-threatening situations in cities and in isolated wildernesses. He said those conditions were created by “false brethren;” people he knew personally.

Yet, his discouragement never reached the point where he threw in the towel and headed back home to Tarsus.

He said that one great burden that was never lifted from him was the fact that he had the care and supervision of ALL the churches.  We all know what a challenge that must have been.

Now, if all that you’ve seen that happened to him doesn’t prove he was a real fighter for his Heavenly Father, then lift his shirt and count the number of flesh-torn stripes he had. More than one hundred and ninety-five!

What kept that inner man, that fighter, going? He gave the answer himself:

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13)

It was the Spirit of Christ working with, and for, the inner man that gave Paul success for his Saviour.

Sure, there is a fighter inside you and there is a fighter inside me. The problem is that, well . . . you know the story all too well, and you know it’s true.

Sadly, we’ve all taken blows the enemy of Christ has inspired others to hammer us with. Standing up for the truth just invites getting knocked down. Lots of cruel things have been said that have broken the hearts of those who have accepted the Godhead message. Rejection of the false trinity concept has brought rejection by former friends, left its scars and weakened us. Far too many are a picture of the pain that persecution and criticism bring. So they are weakly hanging on, hoping that Jesus will finally come and make all things right.

When you see a car sitting up on concrete blocks to be repaired, chances are good that you will see it in the very same position and condition the next time around. It would be a worthwhile project and perhaps the family needs it, but nothing gets done on it day after day and week after week. Even if it’s an unfinished auto, Satan rejoices to see humans giving up and quitting. Sure, the owner says he’s going to get working on it again but right now there are other things he has just got to do. They call that procrastination, don’t they?

Tragically, Satan has used the cruelty and coldness of others to cause us not to finish something super important that we dreamed of doing just a short time ago. He has also used the fact that many obedient and solid believers are all alone on Sabbaths now because of their stand for the truth to bring discouragement and yes, even procrastination. It seems like we just don’t have the desire and energy to stick to it until it’s done, BUT . . .

The fighter is still there, deep down in your life just waiting for the opportunity to make it work.

Do you know what we are talking about? It’s that lost desire, that defeated dream; the goal that’s gone; the one you had when you first learned and accepted the total truth for God’s last-day people——the three angel’s messages. Remember how you wanted to evangelize the world for Jesus? Remember how your heart burned just thinking about sharing the truth with everyone you met? Remember how you believed that the entire planet could be converted rapidly, and eternal life would begin?

Then when you discovered the false trinity concept and rejected it completely, wham! Satan really didn’t waste any time in knocking you down! When you looked up you saw long-time friends and loved ones standing over you with clinched fists. BUT . . . the fighter, the soul-winner is still in you. You don’t have to stretch your imagination any to recognize that those dreams are not completely forsaken. You get glimpses of the fighter, the soul-winner, all the time. So hang on. There’s light at the end of the tunnel, and there’s more than a good chance that this very newsletter you have in your hand right now might help you release the fighter and see thrilling and successful soul winning results.

Realizing this inspirational truth about the inner man has personally encouraged us to hang in a little longer and try a little harder. The fighter is still inside. And we have been praying that the Spirit of Christ will super-charge you to rededicate your life to Him. Set aside all the hurts and discouragement of the past; make new determinations to be more obedient, to once again hold high your God-given standards, and to rekindle that soul winning flame so it can all be over very soon.

You want the fighter, the soul-winner in you, to come alive so that you can start experiencing the matchless joy of bringing others to Christ and the full truth, don’t you? Well, please give this next thought real sincere, prayerful and careful consideration. It might just be the answer.

Smyrna Gospel Ministries and Concerned Publications not only want these things to happen, but they are combining their efforts to help you help finish the work. Together we have come up with a three-stage, sane, and sensible program with a real goal.

Enclosed are some little brochures for each Spiritual Patriot in your family. They give the reader the opportunity to secure the first of the video tape series “All in the Name of the Lord.” As you know, these eight tapes give the full truth including the true gospel as it revealed in the truth about God and His only begotten Son. They are the product of our book by the same name that brought thousands to a knowledge and acceptance of the three angels’ messages.

When we read the story of Mick Goslin, that 17-year-old lad who went to one of the Promise Keepers meetings in South Carolina, and in one evening and the next morning handed out 13,000 tracts, we knew that the few brochures we are sending was much more than reasonable. We believe you can do this.

We are asking you to pray for the Lord’s blessings and then go out and place these little handbills on the doors of homes in your area, under the windshield wipers of parked cars in nearby shopping centers, and any and every place where they can be found and read. Exposing your area to these soul-winning tapes is step number one.

Number two is when you have discovered that you can go out for the Lord like this and put these flyers out for the public, then we are asking you to write back to us and tell us how many more you want us to send you! We believe that the Lord will bless you so much that you can’t wait to get back out there and distribute these little pamphlets to everyone in your area. Writing back to get more is step number two.

We have been stressing “your area” for a very definite reason. When these precious candidates for Heaven do write in for the videos and watch all of them, they are definite interests! So since they are coming from your area, they will have someone to turn to for help and fellowship. We face this problem all the time: The Lord has blessed our ads in magazines and newspapers but after these precious folks finish the videos and become convinced of the truth, they want us to start sending them our monthly “Special Message for a Special People” videos. Then they write or call us and ask where they can meet with people who believe these truths. So if you can cover your area with these pamphlets, and the Lord blesses with interested souls, you can take over from there. That’s step number three, and it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. Exciting days are ahead if you will only let the fighter in you out to work for Christ!

We are shooting for 50,000 brochures to be passed out this first time. That sounds like a lot, but we have a BIG God Who can make big things happen through you!

Paul knew who that fighter, that inner man, really is and you do too, don’t you? Sure! It’s the real you; the person the Lord created you to be! The one who can be rebuked and not rebuke in return, the one who isn’t critical, sarcastic or demeaning to others, the one who recognizes sin as sin and is constantly praying and striving to have a character like Christ’s. It’s the one who cares for welfare of others, the one who can say “no” to temptation and “yes” to righteous acts, the one who lies down in bed at night thanking the Lord for victories and accomplishments He gave to him or her that day as well as asking for forgiveness. He is the one who truly loves to read and study God’s Word day and night; the one who has real genuine peace and assurance within; the one who will get up, go out and attempt things for the advancement of Christ’s work here on earth. Yes, the inner man is you, and when the Spirit of Christ starts working with you, great things are bound to happen.

There are a few things that we must discuss with you and the first is, please do not put these brochures INSIDE the mailboxes. This will bring down the wrath of the Post Office and place our work in jeopardy. Then, second, as much as you tactfully can, avoid talking with the people you give these brochures to. They will ask you what church you belong to and a host of other questions that definitely do not need to be answered at this time. When I am asked these questions I usually say, “Oh, we work with all denominations.” You will meet a few people who are so friendly that you will want to convert them right on the spot, but this does not usually work. Smile, give them the brochure if you are meeting them face to face, and then walk on. The less contact you have with these people the better. When they keep on wanting to know lots more, I tell them something to the effect that they’ll get piles and piles of answers in these videos. Just keep in mind that we don’t do much good by long conversations at first contact.

When someone in your area gets all the videos we’ll let you know. As we pray and work together, we will see good results. The Lord is just waiting to honor it all. In Judges 13:25, there’s something written about Samson that we pray will happen to you, only on a permanent basis. It says:

“And the Spirit of the Lord began to move him at times.” This is the experience you want, isn’t it? And you want it more and more with each passing day. What a blessing awaits you as your entire life is given over more and more until one day it is one hundred percent controlled and honored by Christ’s Spirit. You have known this type of leading and blessing on occasions in your Christian life, haven’t you? Let’s pray that each day will see an increase of Christ’s working in you to give you victory, peace and satisfaction. Success is ahead and you will do great things for Him.

“If you think you’re beaten, you are; if you think you dare not, you don’t; if you’d like to win but you think you can’t, it’s almost a cinch you won’t.

“If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost, for out of the world we find, success begins with your will; it’s all in the state of mind.

“If you think you’re outclassed you are; you’ve got to think high to rise. You’ve got to be sure of yourself; before you can ever win a prize.

“Life’s battles don’t always go; to the stronger or faster man, but sooner or later the one who wins; is the one who thinks he can.”

God bless you lots and lots and lots and lots.

Really enjoyed the Old Paths issue this month. Thanks. Keep up the good work. Lynnford is really an excellent writer. His article in Present Truth is very good. It watered my soul. David Clayton’s article really blessed me also.    AZ

I just finished reading the Oct. Old Paths again! It’s a great little magazine!!     TN

I want to thank you for your precious book that I have been reading. It is very precious to me. I believe the good Lord is coming soon to take us away from this world we live in.    NH

Enclosed is the sum  of  $100. It’s God’s tithes for the work of the ministry. My wife and I have been blessed and encouraged that you are sharing the old paths. Also, we are very happy to see the excellent work that your ministry participated in concerning the production of the latest video on the Godhead. It was very well put together.    TN

A warm aloha from Hawaii! I would like to let you know that your ministry has been a blessing to me. Praise the Lord.    HI

Thank you kindly for your excellent Old Paths newsletter, which I have been receiving for some time.  We are still putting out booklets on the Godhead issue here, just about everyone has heard about it by now.     Tasmania

Thank you for the video on the Alpha and the Omega. I have shared it with a close friend and a pastor in the organized church. It would seem as though once a person grabs hold of the trinity doctrine it is very difficult to let go. The evidence of how our pioneers believed is taken as a lie. Prayer seems all that remains for these people. They have given up listening. However I will continue to share the video in hopes that it will bring someone to the truth.

It was not my intention to criticize your newsletter of a couple months ago, I only wanted not to receive any more of them. Because  you wrote to me I feel that I can tell you that the article that you printed from Bill Stringfellow … was evidence that you truly do not understand who God is. Obviously you understand He is only one God but what do you understand of  His Character, which is who He is?    MN

We are new to you and you’re new to us, but neither are new to the Lord. Thank you for your pamphlets, papers, booklets, etc. We find them very very informative. Thank you for having the spiritual “gift” to tackle such an old error (old enough to have whiskers) (smile). May God richly bless you.

My husband and I are long time Adventists (40 something and 50 some years seniority. But we are still little children trying to learn the way. Our hearts are very sad these days because of many things. But our faith is in Him who is able to “keep us from falling.” So may God richly bless and keep you, our newly found friends.    MI

Thanks for the reprint of my article on the “Death of the Wicked.”

I have received several calls and letters of thanks from out-of-State people who thought it was very helpful, and they also wanted a copy of Who is this Michael.    Thanks again.    OH

If possible, please send us a couple of those books, namely; What Did the Pioneers Believe?.    MI

Have been enjoying your paper immensely. Trusting that all is going well with your ministry. Keep up the good work.    Victoria

Greetings to one and all. Hope all is well. We have been blessed to have meetings with Doug Goslin here in Oregon. This has really helped to “ground” two couples and one brother I have been working with here.    OR

Please continue to send Old Paths. I read your November issue from cover to cover the minute it came! I always share them with friends. I want you to know that I am anti-trinitarian! I was a Lutheran for 48 years and know what the Trinity is. Keep up the good work and may God bless!    TN

We received your books recently, and were very pleased with them. Thank you for sending them so quickly. We look forward to giving them out.

We were blessed with Brother David Clayton’s messages the last couple of weeks. He and his family will be sorely missed by all. He spoke at the Seventh-day Baptist Church this Sabbath, and everyone there just loved him and his family. They told him that if he ever comes back to the states; then they would like him to speak at their church again. A number of them even came to some of our meetings in New Burnside.    IL

Just borrowed a copy of your publication Old Paths. Apparently my name was deleted from your mailing list! I would appreciate receiving your publication. Thanks so much.    NH

Enclosed please find $10.00. Would you kindly send me a pack of “Christmas is Coming” [tracts].    MN

Greetings in the name of our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I am writing to you regarding the Christmas Tract after seeing it in Old Paths. I would be very grateful if you could send 700. I am enclosing a check for 38 pounds.    England

Thank you for the video about the Omega heresy. I have shared it with others and appreciate having it.

I am sending an enclosed donation to cover your expenses for this video and your ministry and this order.

I would like for you to send me 1000 Christmas Card flyers that I saw advertised in the last issue of Old Paths and if possible I would love to get the cassette tapes of David Clayton at the Arizona camp meeting.

Much of what I get from you or your web sites I reproduce and share.

Thank you for the many blessings that God has given me through your work and may those blessings be returned to you in abundance.    CO

Youth’s Corner

Who Was That Man?

“Circuit Rider” was the name tacked on ministers in the days when one preacher had from five to seven churches under his jurisdiction. He would see one church, and sometimes two, each week, then travel on the following week to the next. He made a circuit around his territory, so they nicknamed him a “circuit rider.”

Pastor John Jones of the Welch Calvinistic Methodist Church was one such circuit rider. One particular day, as he was riding his horse towards his home after visiting one of his many churches, he felt very uneasy about his trip. It was not just that he was carrying a large amount of money which had been taken up for a special chapel building project. He had done that many times. He was very uncomfortable this day and he did not know why. It was not long after departing that the sensation of trouble increased. He prodded his horse into a faster pace as he made his way across a long, long isolated section between two small villages.

The road narrowed to a small path with a five-foot high hedge running parallel to it. The hedge served as a wind breaker, keeping the small path from losing all its dirt.

As John rode along the hedge path, he saw another horse on his left coming towards him from a great distance away. In a matter of a few minutes, the other rider was within fifty feet of him, riding on the other side of the hedge. Coming a little closer to the hedge, John could see that the rider was very rough looking and held a large reaping hook in his hand. The rider stared at the minister. John knew that his fears had now been confirmed.

His concern for his safety and the safety of the funds grew as they approached a gate that crossed John’s path. John always found the gate closed in times past and knew that he would have to dismount to unlock it again. The rider went ahead of him, dismounted and was standing at the gate. It was now only about one half of a mile away. John, still in the saddle, began to pray.

“Dear God, you know that I have this money with me that has been given by those hard-working people of Yours. Much of it represents great sacrifice. Please protect me now from this stranger and any other danger that I might not be aware of. Please don’t let me come to harm. Thank you in Christ’s name.”

As John prayed, his horse had slowly come to a halt. Without looking up, John urged his horse onward. It refused to budge an inch. John gave it a kick in the side which did not move the animal one bit. Then John looked up and saw the reason for his horse’s hesitancy.

Right in front of them, at one place where the path widened so wagons could pass each other, was another horse. It was a large white steed and a tall man was in its saddle.

“Where did he come from?” John asked himself. “I didn’t see anyone ahead of me. I didn’t see anyone coming from the other direction, either. How did he get up there?”

John rode up to the stranger, and before he realized it, had poured out his problem to him. For some odd reason, it was a relief to share this with the other rider.

He did not answer John, but stared intently at the other man with the reaping hook. When the suspected robber looked up and saw the new rider’s stare, he suddenly mounted his horse and rode feverously across the field in the direction he had come from.

“Whew!” John said, “I am so thankful that you came up when you did!”

The man on the white steed made no reply whatsoever.

“If you hadn’t come up, I’d probably have been robbed or killed.”

The other man remained silent, and John became nervous. He began to feel very uncomfortable over the fact that there was no two-way communication.

“When I saw that other man ride off as fast as he did,” John continued, “I just knew that my prayer for deliverance was heard, and that you were sent by the Lord.”

Without looking at John, the rider said simply, but strongly, “Amen.”

John jumped off his horse at the gate, opened it so that this friend could pass through first. Then John walked his own horse through. When John turned around, locked the gate, and went back to his horse, the rider was gone!

John looked down the road where they had come from and saw no one nor any dust. He looked in the direction that the would-be robber had taken so quickly and did not see the white horse. He looked ahead of him where he was heading and still did not see the beneficial rider.

“Where is he?” John asked himself in a semi-daze, “Where could he have gone to?”

A cold chill raced over his body as he thought about what had actually happened. And John again began to question himself. “Am I imagining all this?”

John walked back to the gate and looked over onto the path he had just been riding on. There were two sets of hoofprints. There had been another rider with him!

John looked over at the field where the robber had been and saw clearly the freshly beaten-down grass from the other rider. He knew that it was all real!

John mounted his horse and rode along at his regular pace. A deep feeling of awe overcame him as never before in his entire life. He thought back on how the tall rider on the white steed had suddenly appeared after he had begged God for help. He pictured the rider’s silence, except for that one word, “Amen.” Then, it all came into focus.

“He never said a word until I mentioned the name of the Lord. I have actually seen an angel! The Lord sent an angel for me just like He did time after time after time in the Bible!”

John stopped his horse, jumped off, and fell to his knees.

“Oh Lord, I’ve always believed that you sent your delivering and protecting angels for those saints in the Bible. I believe your holy Word. But, I’ve never felt worthy of Your sending an angel for me. I’m so glad that You don’t base help and deliverance on merit or worthiness. Cause if you did, I wouldn’t be thanking you now.”

The Heavens Do Tell
and Some Listen

By Bob Talios

(With the coming of the winter season in the northern hemisphere, we enter into the time of shorter days and longer nights. These cooler (or just plain cold for some of us) and longer nights provide us a chance to consider the universe of God’s great creation through the study of astronomy - not astrology.  Brother Bob Talios, as a amateur astronomer, has put together some very interesting facts and figures for our consideration. I am sure that as you read these Bible verses and consider these facts about our universe, you will with new awe consider how great our wonderful God is!      Editor)

“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:1-3)

“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:14-19, 31) (The Hebrew word for the twenty-four hour “day” is yom.)

“Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea. Which maketh Arcturus [the bear], Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.” (Job 9:8-9)

“He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” (Job 26:7)

“He obscures the face of the full moon. And spreads His cloud over it [the eclipse].” (Job 26:9 NASB)

“By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth? Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth [a constellation] in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?” (Job 38:24, 31, 32) Artcturus is a runaway star with the speed of 257 miles per second. The spectrascope, which can detect such movement, was invented in 1859, approximately 3200 years after Job wrote his book.

“Seek him that maketh the seven stars [the Pleiades] and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.” (Amos 5:8)

There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory [character or brightness]. (1 Corinthians 15:41)

The following are some interesting excerpts from Carl Sagan’s book Comas:

“A moon crater is named Giordano Bruno after the sixteen-century Roman Catholic scholar who held that there are an infinity of worlds and that many are inhabited. For this and other crimes he was burned at the stake in the year 1600.” (p. 86)

“Galileo discovered mountains on the moon and that Jupiter had moons of its own. The Roman Catholic Church was unconvinced even after observing them! Galileo spent the last eight years of his life under house arrest in his small house outside Florence.” (p. 141)

Travel on earth is measured in miles per hour. Light in space travels 186,000 miles per second (298,000 km/sec.). It takes 1,300,000 earths to equal our sun in size. Our solar system is composed of planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and last but not least, Pluto. A group system has multiple stars such as Polaris with three stars. A cluster system, is a group of stars that all move together such as the Pleiades. A globular cluster such as Hercules has 200,000 suns with an average distance between the stars of seven trillion miles. The Hale Scope sees hundreds of millions of galaxies, and no end in sight!

Facts and Figures

The following are taken from Today’s Amazing Universe:

“Gen. O.M. Mitchell, former director of the Cincinnati Observatory, exclaimed: ‘At His [God’s] bidding every planet and satellite and comet, and the sun itself, fly onward in their appointed courses. His single arm guides the millions of sweeping suns, and around His throne circles the great constellation of unnumbered universes.’ ” (p. 21)

“ ‘All human discoveries seem to be made only for the purpose of confirming more strongly the truths that come from on high and are contained in the Bible.’ Wm. Herschel.” (p.21)

“In the days when the Bible was written, men thought they knew exactly how many stars there are in God’s heavens, and announced with great satisfaction that there are 5,119 stars. But Jeremiah said to them, ‘The host of heaven cannot be numbered.’ (Jeremiah 33:32) With that boldness that accompanies divine inspiration, the man of God insisted that the stars are innumerable and can never be counted by man. In 1610 Galileo developed a crude instrument; the Telescope.” (p. 26)

“We come now to the Constellation of Orion, with the words of the eternal God ringing in our ears: ‘Canst thou...loose the bands of Orion?’ In the course of time, however, the two right-hand stars, Mintaka and Alnilam will approach each other and form a naked eye double; but the third, Alnitak, will drift away eastward so that the band will no longer exist. Again Sir William Herschel, the great astronomer, who said, ‘All human discoveries seem to be made only for the purpose of confirming more strongly the truths that come from on high and are contained in the Bible.’ ” (p. 36)

“Henry Norris Russell paid his respect to God’s marvelous creation when he wrote: ‘We are faced with the conception of a universe wholly orderly in every part. The contemplation of this glorious order produces, as the mind begins to realize it, a feeling which can only be called reverence.’ ” (p. 63)

“In the Elgin National Watchworks there are two master clocks for regulating fine watches. These clocks are in turn regulated by the stars. The clocks are in the charge of two astronomers who recently made the statement that they have never found the slightest variation in the movements of the stars even to the extent of one-hundredth of a second; and the manager of the Elgin Co., when he heard this, stated that he takes his hat off to the Watchmaker who made that watch...the universe.” Los Angeles Times.

Surely God’s divine perfections are rendered intelligible and clearly visible by His works! (See Romans 1:20.)

No Time Has Been Lost

Dr. J. B. Dimbleby, a premier chronologist to the British Chronological and Astronomical Association, is said by some to be the first calculator of all eclipses and transits of the past. In relation to his eclipse calculations he makes the following statement in his book All Past Time: “The result of all these calculations was that the first solar eclipse occurred on Friday, the first day of the fourth month. It not only proved the date, and day of the week, as I expected, but also provided a most important and arbitrary factor for determining several interesting things, namely: 1) It shows that the first year began with Sunday. 2) It proves that the first Sabbath was the 7th day of the week, Saturday. 3) As the eclipse always occurred on Friday, as the ancients tell us, it shows that the week has never been broken, because it takes place now on Friday.” (p. 124)solarsys.jpg (15240 bytes)

Again he says on page eight, “Creation was evidently the beginning of the motions of the earth and the moon, and investigation shows that from that point, all Biblical periods, years, and dates proceed, traveling with undeviated precision side by side with all the astronomical periods, so that every seventh year of Biblical time is the seventh year of all planetary motion.”

After many years of careful calculations Dr. Dimbleby makes this statement on page 10 of his book: “If men refused to observe weeks, and the line of time was forgotten, the days of the week could be recovered by observing when transits of the planets, or eclipses of the sun or moon, occurred. These great sentinels of the sky keep seven days with scientific accuracy, thundering out the seven days inscribed on the inspired page.”

“Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them.” (Revelation 12:12)    qqq
