Sabbath, April 8, 2017

Sabbath was a blessed day, as we fellowshipped with one another locally and by telephone conferencing. The Internet classroom was down, and we could not access it for our services, but it was later restored, so that services later in the day could be broadcast.

We thank you for joining us for services and pray that your day was also blessed. Sabbath School began with prayer and song service, and then the virtual and local class listened to a presentation by Pastor Allen Stump about catapults and how we can store up knowledge of the scriptures as potential energy that can be released as kinetic energy when we are witnessing or giving an answer for our faith. The lesson study continued in John Nevins Andrews’s book, History of the Sabbath, Chapter 6, and considered the concepts of not picking up sticks on the sabbath and not starting a fire on the sabbath, as well as Ezekiel 20 as it relates Exodus 32 and the golden calf.

The Worship Hour began with prayer, a hymn, and the congregational prayer, and then Pastor Allen Stump shared the message of the hour, entitled "Rest for the Restless. It was a sermon for souls needing to trust more fully in the promises of God during their normal daily lives, as well as during times of stress and crisis, when comfort and peace are greatly needed. The audio recording of this sermon can be heard here.

We encourage you to continue your daily readings in the Bible and in the Spirit of Prophecy. At Smyrna, we are nearing the close of The Desire of Ages, and quizzes for each chapter are linked below. You should be at about 2 Kings 13 in your Bible reading, if you are attempting to read the Bible through this year by reading three chapters each weekday and four chapters a day on each day of the weekend.
