Sabbath, March 29, 2014

Sabbath was a rainy day at SGM, but we were blessed with the sunshine of God's love and the knowledge that we are all one Sabbath closer to the coming of Jesus Christ.

Following prayer and a joint song service, the adults and youth separated for their studies. The adults continued their study on the Day of Atonement and the sanctuary, led by Brother Mike Brown. I am sure many of you wish you could be here for the studies.

The Youth Sabbath School had a nature story about families by Tamela Franklin. The main lesson centered on the life and stories of Elijah. It is amazing how many major and well-know stories there are in the Bible about a character who covers such a short period of time. You may see the slide presentations for the youth Sabbath School here.

Here is another thought for parents found in the Testimonies: “We are in the great day of atonement, and the sacred work of Christ for the people of God that is going on at the present time in the heavenly sanctuary should be our constant study. We should teach our children what the typical Day of Atonement signified and that it was a special season of great humiliation and confession of sins before God. The antitypical day of atonement is to be of the same character. Everyone who teaches the truth by precept and example will give the trumpet a certain sound” (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 520).

Announcement: Youth Sabbath School is now beginning at 9:35 a.m. EDT (instead of 9:40) and will close at 10:40 a.m. (instead of 10:45), to allow adequate time to set up for live streaming of the church service.

Our Worship Hour began with prayer and an opening hymn. Following prayer requests, Brother Leon Holt led the congregation in prayer, and then Pastor Allen Stump shared a youth story about the life of Frank, who began living a fraudulent life at a tender age, but God gave him a second chance, and he turned his life around.

The message of the day was entitled "Suppose." Suppose you lived in Jerusalem around 680 BC when the wicked Manasseh was reigning. During this time there were idols of Baal in the temple and priests of Baal had been serving in the place of true priests. Would you have worshipped in the temple then? What you answer may be a measure of your experience today. You may see the slides for this message here.  You may also see the video for this presentation below:

We are sorry we were not able to post news last week but we have had a lot of interest in last week's sermon entitled "The Axis of Evil." We hope to have a video of this message posted on our YouTube channel within a few days. Thank you for being patient.

We invite you to join our online and telephone conference services each week--Sabbath Song Service at 9:15 am EDT Sabbath morning, Youth Sabbath School at 9:35 a.m. EDT Sabbath morning, Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. EDT Sabbath Morning, Story Hour at 7:00 p.m. EDT Monday, and Prayer Meeting at 7:00 p.m. EDT Wednesday.
