Sabbath, February 1, 2014

Like much of the nation, we were thankful for warmer weather and the chance to meet in the Smyrna Chapel without the threat of more snow.

The Youth Sabbath School began with prayer and a song service with the adults. Then Pastor Allen Stump shared a science demonstration about pH, using acids, such as vinegar and lemon juice, and bases, such as baking soda and bleach. He will continue next week, using eggs and vinegar. In this lesson we learned that vinegar usually begins with a type of wine and goes through a second process of fermentation. After this process, the vinegar still contains small amounts of alcohol, up to 2%. A nature nugget about pitcher plants followed, applying the trap of the pitcher plant to Satan’s traps and how he entices us to sin, just as he did King David. The lesson study continued with the reign of King David. You may view the slides of these presentations here.

“And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children” (Isaiah 54:13).

The adults continued their study on the Sanctuary, led by Sister Ann Ford.

The Worship Hour began with prayer and a hymn. After prayer requests were shared, Brother Leon Holt led the congregation in intercessory prayer, and then Pastor Allen Stump presented the message of the hour, entitled “God's Special Gift for a Special People.” You may hear an audio copy of this sermon here. You may view Pastor Allen’s sermon slides here. The video presentation is below.
