Sabbath, January 25, 2014

This snowy Sabbath we met as a home church in Camden on Gauley, WV, at the Holts’ home. We wish you could have joined us, for it was a blessed time of worship and fellowship. Our Sabbath School began with prayer and song service. Then Pastor Allen Stump shared a devotional using a science demonstration explaining the fluid and solid properties of wet cornstarch. Benjamin and Ashleigh helped make the cornstarch solution, and the devotional was videoed to the Internet Sabbath School. Pastor Allen applied the lesson to us as Christians and that we do not want to be a wishy-washy  person, but one with firm and solid principles that do not change with popular opinion.

The adults continued their study on the Sanctuary, led by Sister Ann Ford, and the youth continued their study on the reign of David. The youth also learned about the cork oak and how the cork extractor must be strong to make the cuts on the tree and to pull the top layer of the bark off, but also gentle in knowing how deep the cuts need to be made--too deep and the tree will die. This was applied to our lives and how Jesus is both strong and gentle and is willing to cleanse us from our sins, just as part of the bark is stripped away from the cork oak, and give us a new life in him.. The youth also had a health lesson on how drinking cola drinks harms our bodies. You may view the slides of these presentations here.

A promise for our children: But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children” (Isaiah 49:25).

The Worship Hour began with prayer and a hymn. After prayer requests were shared, Brother Leon Holt led the congregation in intercessory prayer, and then Sister Linda Akens shared a children’s story about choosing the best reading materialGod’s word. Next Pastor Allen Stump presented the message of the hour, entitled “The Price of Timidity.” We are sorry to say that, even though we tried, the sermon was not recorded; however, you may view Pastor Allen’s sermon slides here.
