Sabbath, April 5, 2014

Sabbath was a bright sunny day at SGM, and we were blessed this first Sabbath in April with several online brothers and sisters in both Sabbath School and worship services. We appreciate each one who visits with us.

Following prayer and a joint song service, the adults and youth separated for their studies. The adults continued their study on the Day of Atonement and the sanctuary, led by Sister Ann Ford. A copy of Sister Ford's reference handout  can be downloaded here.

The Youth Sabbath School began with prayer and with special music by Brother Michael Brown, who played three children’s hymns on his recorder, including the cheerful hymn “Smile, Smile, Smile.”

Pastor Allen Stump shared a math lesson which illustrated how everything in math depends upon the operation of addition and everything in our Christian life depends upon trusting Jesus and his word.

The young people then considered the botanist Nikolai Vavilov, who had collected plants and seeds from around the world in an effort to establish a seed bank and eliminate hunger. He stood alone before Stalin, who eventually sent him to prison, where Vavilov died of starvation. Elijah also stood alone on Mt. Carmel and even thought he was the only one left in Israel who was faithful to God, but God informed him of 7,000 who had not bowed the knee to Baal. You may see and/or download the slides used in class here.

Another promise for our children is found in Deuteronomy 4:40 which says: “Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.”

Our Worship Hour began with prayer and an opening hymn. Following prayer requests, Brother Leon Holt led the congregation in prayer, and then Pastor Allen Stump shared a message on unity entitled "God's Goal in Unity." You may see the slides for this message here.  You may also see the video for this presentation below:
