The Youth Sabbath School learned about the potto.

Pottos are nocturnal primates who live
almost all their lives in trees.

The design of the potto's hand allows for an excellent grip--
even though the index finger is greatly reduced in size,
the second digits of the other fingers are also reduced,
allowing a close and tight clasp.

Sabbath, December 28, 2013

As we gathered for our last Sabbath of the year, we were thankful for the help that the Lord has given to us this last year. We had a lovely Sabbath day at Smyrna and hope yours was also.

Sabbath School began with prayer and song service and then separated into adult and youth divisions. The adults, following a devotional by Brother Michael Woodward, continued their study of the sanctuary services, led by Brother Michael Brown.

The youth first viewed a science demonstration by Pastor Allen Stump on “Measuring the Moisture in Seeds.” In this demonstration we saw that the amount of water in a popcorn seed is critical for proper popping.  We then discussed John 7:38 and Proverbs 18:4, noting that we can never have too much of the water of life. Our nature study was on pottos. The lesson focused on the death of Samuel and how we can live a life such as Samuel lived. You may view the slides for today's Sabbath school here.

A beautiful promise given to parents for their children is found in Isaiah 44:3-5 which begins: ”For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring . . .” May God bless all of our children this week is our prayer. We invite you to join us for Sabbath School, starting with song service at 9:15 a.m. EST.

At worship we were thankful for a nice gathering of brothers and sisters. After a congregational hymn and prayer by Brother Leon Holt, Sister Onycha Holt concluded the children’s story about Faole of Papua, New Guinea. You may see this story below:

Pastor Stump spoke on “The Swiss Are Wrong.” This sermon discussed the problems of neutrality and how God calls for his people to make a decided stand for him. The slides for this important sermon can be accessed here. The audio version of the sermon can be accessed here. We hope to publish a video of this sermon soon, so check back often.

We are sorry we were not able to post news last week, but we do have last week's message entitled “Enduring Hardness” posted. The audio link is here, and the slides are here.

If God abhors one sin above another, of which His people are guilty, it is doing nothing in case of an emergency. Indifference and neutrality in a religious crisis is regarded of God as a grievous crime and equal to the very worst type of hostility against God. (Testimonies for the Church, vol. 3, p. 281)

Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
 (1 Samuel 2:30)

Thank you for listening to our services, for we are blessed to have you join us, and may the new week be filled with God’s presence.

We invite you to join our online and telephone conference services each week--Youth Sabbath School at 9:40 a.m. EST Sabbath morning, Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. EST Sabbath Morning, Story Hour at 7:00 p.m. EST Monday, and Prayer Meeting at 7:00 p.m. EST Wednesday. May God richly bless you until we meet again.
